Austria d Lebanon by default, due to total closing of all of Lebanon's Airport and borders because of violent internal strife. Nevertheless, Lebanon captain Nohad Schoucair had to go to Europe to officially withdraw his Team, and avoid disqualification for future participation in the Davis Cup.

….. Due to the inefficiency of the then Lebanese Olympic Committee President, Lebanon was from there on, categorized in ASIA, which was justified geographically, but costly and very difficult - - distance wise for this small Mediterranean country whilst Israel, for example, inserted itself in Europe !!!
