  • With the presence of Neale Fraser and Roy Emerson, Brummana reached its pinnacle in foreign stars presence. Fraser, Wimbledon 1960 and US Champion 1959-1960, was in 1962 still world no 3 or 4 after having been no 1 in 1959 and 1960. He also totaled 11 men's doubles titles in the Grand Slam tournaments, plus 5 mixed ! Emerson, already winner in Forest Hills in 1961, and in Australia in 1961 will go on to win Wimbledon 3 times (1963-64-65), the French (1963-1967), the US (1961-64, the Australian 6 times (61-63-64-65-66-67) and was in 1962 world no 2, having lost that year 3 Slam finals to legendary Rodney Laver, who was then accomplishing his historical first 4 x 4 Grand Slam. In all Emerson won 12 Grand Slam singles and 16 men's doubles Slam titles, was world no 1 in 1964 and 1965, only missing the top spot in 1966 because of an injury during Wimbledon, and will remain no 2 in 1967.He will still be a Top tenner at the beginning of the Open era.

  • The graceful and lovely Helga Schultze will reach her best world ranking in 1964 as world no 5.

  • The classical style of Indian no 2 Premjit Lall, was best adapted to fast grass courts. He played Davis Cup for his country for 15 consecutive years. In the 1969 Wimbledon Open singles draw, Lall could have prevented the great Rod Laver of completing that year's Grand Slam, when he led the world no 1 by 63 64 and 30 in the 3d set !!! It is said that Lall missed an easy smash to make it a double break, or that a cramp hit him in the right hand (elbow ?) : Anyway, from that point on, Laver scored 18 consecutive games to win 36 46 63 60 60, and later won the championships on his majestic road to his second OPEN Grand Slam. Lall also played, and lost, the longest tie-break (20 pts to 18) in the History of Wimbledon in 1973, against Bjorn Borg, a record only equaled in 1980 by McEnroe and Borg in their splendid final match. Lall suffered a stroke in 1992, and spent 16 years in a wheel chair till his death in 2008.

  • In Istanbul, Singles were won by Roy Emerson over Neale Fraser 36 60 63 63 and by Miss Helga Schultze over Pia Balling 64 61, with Emerson and Fraser also securing the doubles over fellow countrymen John Fraser and Warren Jacques 61 57 61. The score of the Emerson-Fraser match was very similar to the Brummana one.

  • John Fraser, younger brother of Neale, was a medical doctor who took leave of his cabinet in Australia and went on the amateur circuit in Europe for 1962, managing to reach the Wimbledon semi finals !!! (like Neale, which made them the first brothers to do so since 1900) at his first participation. + playing the doubles semis as well with his formidable partner Rod Laver. After the Australian championships of 1963, he never played in the big league again. For a TRUE amateur, the good doctor had fared very very well, for e.g. at Wimbledon where he beat successively the Brazilian no 2 Carlos Fernandes, the US player C.Crawford, the seeded Ramanathan Krishnan (who defaulted because of injury) , the tall Italian Orlando Sirola 64 64 62 !!! and in the ¼ the Australian K.Fletcher 16 79 64 61 62, before losing to Laver. In doubles, he and the same Laver had beaten McMillan-Rawsthorne, the British no 1 team Knight-Pickard, the South Africans no 1 Forbes-Segal and the Mexican Davis Cup stars Osuna-Palafox, before losing to Hewitt-Stolle 86 57 75 62.
