Yarzé, 12 to 18 October 1992

In preparation for the new Davis Cup venture of a young and motivated Lebanese national Team, Lebanese Federation Secretary Nohad Schoucair and Davis Cup captain Makram Alameddine, organized a Regional International Tournament with 12 players from the official National Teams of Iran, Kuwait, Bahrein, Syria, UAE,,Egypt, etc… the Men's singles being won by the Swiss junior Georges Bastl (17 years of age then) over Kambiz Javan; and the doubles by the Iranians Cambyse (Kambiz) Javan and Mohammed Reza Tavakoli. On the Lebanese side, Raymond Kattoura (who had won the Lebanese Championships in 91 and 92 over Nehmé then Karim Khoury), Karim Khoury, Hussein Badreddine, Fady Haddad, Toufic Zahlan, Omar Sadek, Nicolas Kanaan, Bechara Abou Rahhal, participated with various limited successes.

• Bastel or Bastl will enter the world top 70 a few years later and will play a memorable match vs world no 1, Peter Sampras, at Wimbledon in 2002, beating the then seven-times Wimbledon winner in five sets.
