  • Ann Haydon Jones, after more than 10 years in the world's best Ten, had won Wimbledon in 1969, beating the famous Margaret Court and Billie Jean King in the ½ and f. She had reached the final there in 1967, losing to King, and was also runner-up at Roland Garros in 1961 and 1966, and at Forest Hills (US title) in 1961 and 1967.

  • In Istanbul, Bob Hewitt (who will skip Brummana that summer) won the finals over Roland-Garros finalist Zelkjo Franulovic of Yugoslavia in 5 sets

Two National Heroes of their kind on the Lebanese Tennis scene: Elie Aboukhaled (Loulou for all) served as referee at Brummana for 30 years + Karim Fawaz, ranked no 1 and actor in many epic matches there in the 60's
